Modern kilts

If you want a kilt but don't like tartans there are a lot of modern kilts to buy. To me nothing compares to the traditional kilt with all  the beautifull tartans, but I do appreciate the idea of modern kilts with pockets and going into the washing machine.

Utilikilt Original Sand

Utilikilt Original Postal Blue. This colour is  no longer available

A Utilikilt may not be the most affordable kilt on the market, especially not to Europeans who will often have to pay import tax, if the kilt plus shipment is more than approx. 150 EUR.
Nevertheless  the kilts are very well made.

The orinigal Utilikilt "Standard" was "closed", had a front zipper and was pleated all way round and therefore in fact more of a skirt. No longer availabe but missed by quite a few  modern kilt wearers who appreciated the straight forward design.

One of the first competitors  to Utilikilts was Amerikilt. I like the design without cargo pockets. In stead it comes with a detachable sporran made in the same fabric and colour as the kilt. The fabric is prone to wrinkle, however. The problem might have been solved, of course, since I bought them back in 2003. Colour: Khaki and olive green.
